CONSIDER AND ACT: Ratificaton of Property Tax Increase Reflected in the FY2010 Budget

BACKGROUND:
HB 3195, approved in 2007 by the Texas Legislature, requires that an additional action be taken once a budget has been adopted and before a tax rate is approved. The governing body must approve a motion ratifying the tax increase represented by the just-passed budget.

RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the motion ratifying the property tax increase. The following wording is recommended:
"I move to ratify the property tax increase reflected in the FY2010 budget."
