CONSIDER AND ACT: on a Request to Use Utility Bills to Raise Funds for the City Employee College Scholarship Fund

BACKGROUND:
Funds have been donated by former Mayor Don Houseman to the University Park Civic Foundation for the purpose of starting a college scholarship program to benefit the children of City employees. A committee was appointed by the City Council to get the program started. One of the issues being deliberated by the committee is on-going fundraising to sustain the program. The committee is recommending the use of utility bills to raise funds for the Scholarship Fund.

RECOMMENDATION:
The Scholarship Fund Committee recommends allowing UP residents to sign up to add a monthly amount to their utility bills for donations to the Scholarship Fund. The residents will be informed about the program in The Arbor.
