| SUBJECT: |
CONSIDER AND ACT: on a Proposal from Nathan D. Maier Consulting Engineers to Provide Engineering Services Associated with the Demolition of the City's Fire Training Tower
BACKGROUND:
The City Council took previous action to authorize the stuctural foundation design for a new fire training facility and for the purchase and installation of a new prefabricated structure. As part of that project, the existing training tower must be demolished. The 30-year-old steel structure was painted with lead-based paint, which will require the City to follow very specific TCEQ regulations to dispose of the material. Similar to the old Northwest Highway Elevated Water Storage Tank, the training tower will probably be cut up and hauled to a smelter. To that end, staff solicited a proposal from Nathan D. Maier Consulting Engineers to provide engineering services associated with that work. Other than developing the technical specifications for the demolition, they will assist with the bidding process and provide construction services to insure that we have a chain of custody for the hazardous material disposal.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends City Council approval of the proposal in the amount of $15,710 from Nathan D. Maier Consulting Engineers.
